Academic Background
I completed my BA in English language and American History at Sophia University in Tokyo. After graduating from Sophia, I moved to the U.K. to study modern history at University of Oxford, where I received a MPhil and DPhil. Currently, I am teaching English and History of Japanese Emigration to the Asia-Pacific Region as a lecturer at Sophia University.

Research Field
The research topic of my doctorate thesis is on the history of Japanese coffee farmers in Kona, Hawai‘i and especially focusing on identity construction and transformation from 1890s to the present. My main areas of study include U.S. cultural and social history, the history of agricultral products (esp. coffee) , immigration history and diaspora studies. I have just started research on Japanese-Filipinos in Tokyo and the Philippines.
